Reasonable fruit and freshness, but there’s a slightly sweet plump vanilla character that makes it all a bit confected. C

Domaines Paul Mas Claude Val Rouge 2013, Pays d’Oc, France (£7.50-£8 Jeroboams,  Old Butchers Wine Cellar)
Good honest wine, with gentle red berry fruit, some earthy/spicy garrigue characters and a spine of freshness from Carignan, manages to be friendly without sacrificing its identity B(+)

Vignobles Foncalieu Montagne Noire Grenache 2012 Pays d’Oc, France (£7.38 Enotria)
Another honest tasty glugger, this has cherry and raspberry flavours pepped up by some herby feistiness, ripe and fruity, and just on the right side of jamminess. B+
