Vinturi Wine Aerator put to the test

Tried this wine aerator recently – as you’ll see from the film, I wasn’t convinced by its performance.

Notes on the wines used:

Le Dog de Jean-Marc Merlot 2008, Vin de Pays d’Oc (£5.49 Morrisons)
Solid plummy fruit, hints of vanilla and spice, nice easy glug but still with a bit of structure. B-

The Co-op Santa Helena Pinot Noir 2008, Casablanca Valley, Chile (£7.99 The Co-op)
Quite firm and chewy, with a smoky bacon edge to the oak and gentle cherry and strawberry fruit. Good but feels a little forced. B(+)

Pauillac 2006, Bordeaux, France (£18.95 www.fromvineyardsdirect.com)
Classic lead pencil and blackcurrant of Pauillac, quite firm but ripe tannins, with the fruit also ripe but still with a leafy freshness. Classy wine, still young, although no crime to drink it now. S

Tapanappa Whalebone Vineyard Cabernet/Shiraz 2004, Wrattonbully, South Australia (£39.99 Oddbins)
Ripe but restrained, showing some hints of leathery maturity, but still with plenty of freshness to the broad-shouldered blackcurrant and blackberry flesh. Lovely texture, fine-grained, almost dusty tannins and plenty of life still ahead of it. S+

Thanks for the comparisons. A friend recently acquired the Vinturi and I was unable to tell if there was any improvement in the bouquet with it. Hence, I looked around and found your video. I wish you had tasted the wine first and then looked up the number just to avoid any bias.

Hi, I did actually do the tasting that way but putting all the footage in the video would have ended up with it being too long.
