Four Assorted White Wines from Argentina, France and Italy

Posted by Simon on November 27, 2009

Domaine du Tariquet Ugni Blanc/Colombard Vin de Pays des Côtes de Gascogne 2008, South-West France (~£5-6)
Crisp, almost Sauvignon-like, with greengage, citrus and herb flavours. Lovely zippy youngster, fresh and zesty, with a quite rich, grassy finish. B

Argento Pinot Grigio 2009, Mendoza, Argentina (£5.99 Majestic)
Simple, fresh, vaguely nutty citrus flavours, hint of peach, OK but not very demanding. C(-)

Antonio Fattori Soave ‘Fiorellino’ 2008, Veneto, Italy (£5.99 Averys)
Crisp, simple, reasonably fresh, with hints of almonds and peaches, nice texture, but not a stunna. C+

Averys Selection Alsace 2007, France (£6.99 Averys)
Aromatic, rich, lychees and grapes plus some spice, quite plump, maybe a touch too rich and louche, a little less of the aromatic varieties and a touch more Pinot Blanc might have made for a more successful blend, but still not unattractive. B(-)
