Wine Tasting Video: Southern Italian Whites – mostly…

Posted by Simon on April 19, 2012

Terredora Coda di Volpe 2010, Campania (£10.95 Jeroboams)
Rich yet lively style, combines plush honeysuckle and peach fruit plumped up by creamy, nutty notes with a more floral zesty purity and freshness. S(-)

Bisceglia Terra di Vulcano Falanghina Beneventano 2010, Basilicata (£8.75 Slurp, Last Drop Wines, Bibendum)
Decent pine scented style, light and limey to start with, then fleshes out with nutty nectarine notes, maybe a touch simple for real class. B(+)

Villa dei Fiori Fiano 2010, Puglia (£6.50 The Cave, Vini Vivi, Bibendum)
Reasonable citrus, pear and custard apple with floral overtones, but just a bit simple. B(-)

Caruso & Minini Grecanico ‘Terre di Giumara’ 2010, Sicily (£7.25 Vini Vivi, Bibendum)
Another one with those herbal/pine-like aromas, plus something of pepperiness of lilies. Decent waxy/nutty citrus and peach flavours too, just lacks the extra mile, but very tasty. B+

Monte Schiavo Pallio de San Floriano Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore 2010, Marche (£8.99 Betton Wines, Noel Young, D Byrne, Amps Fine Wine)
A real sense of clay-like soil coolness here, then the fleshy pear, red berry and ripe orange fruit kicks in, backed up by a creamy nuttiness and herbal/piney notes. S
