Chardonnays from Spain and California

Jean Leon 3055 Chardonnay 2014, Penedès, Spain (£13.99 Hailsham Cellars, Lancaster Wine Company, Dartmouth Wine Company)
Rich and rounded, broad peach and pineapple chunk flavour, tinned fruit juice, smells fleshy but while there’s some lemony zip to bring some freshness, it’s not subtle – feels like yesterday’s wine… B-

La Crema Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2014, California (£21.49 S H Jones, Hailsham Cellars, General Wine Company, Fenwick’s, Great Horkesley Wine, Partridges of Sloane Square, Bottle Stop, Holy Vale Wines, Robert and Speight, Brooks and Son)
A little more vif here, with ripe apple, nectarine and custard apple flavour and a hint of cashew, but the imprint of toasty vanilla oak is just OTT for what otherwise was a nice wine. B
