Merlot + Cabernet Sauvignon + Syrah = the sort of thing a few more people in France might want to think about

Domaine de Cassaigne Côtes de Gascogne 2011, South West France (£9.99 Rude Wines)
Quite a polished style – maybe too polished? – with spicy cinnamon and clove pepping up supple red and black fruit, with fresh, earthy violet aromas in there too and a touch of iron. Currently a tad oaky, so either keep it for another couple of years or give it a good slosh round a jug before serving. S-
