Two Languedoc reds from Calmel & Joseph

Calmel & Joseph Les Terroirs Corbières 2014, Languedoc, France (£10-£11 Richard Granger, Martinez, Old Chapel Cellars, Ellie’s Cellar)
A lovely combo of generous fruit flavours – Victoria plum , apple and blackberry pie, even pomegranate – with perfumed, herby notes and a cool fresh backbone of tannin and fresh acidity. S-

Calmel & Joseph Les Crus Terrasses du Larzac 2014, Languedoc, France (£14.25-£14.95 Martinez, Viader Wines)
I like the fresh floral herby fruit flavours, but there’s a touch of the blackcurrant-pastille-tinged reduction, and the slightly medicinal note of brett to give a dry edge to the tannins and diminish the fruit. It does improve with time, but I think this could have been better. B+
