Marques de Casa Concha Merlot 2012, Peumo (Rapel), Chile (~£12 for current vintage)
Impressive style, balancing plummy berry richness with fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins, plus just the right amount of toasty oak and notes of mint and chocolate to add further layers. Very tasty now, but still bags of life ahead of it – if you can still find a bottle… S

Marques de Casa Concha Syrah 2012, Buin (Maipo), Chile (£12 Tesco)
Quite a wild and herby style, with warm red berry flavours framed by spicy pepper and toasty oak character. Generous and juicy but finishes fresh, very nicely proportioned. S(-)
