Two New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs

Seifried Family Aotea Sauvignon Blanc 2016, Nelson, New Zealand (£13-£15 Rodney Fletcher Vintners, Rannoch Scott Wines, Just in Cases, Noel Young Wines, Penistone Wine Cellars, Roberts & Speight, Wine & The Vine, Grassington Wine Shop, Aged in Oak Wine Company, Ministry of Drinks, Templar Wines, vintagemarque.com, TheDrinkShop.com, winedirect.co.ukthese are companies who have the 2015 and will most likely move on to 2016)
Bounds out of the glass to meet you, with a whoosh of rhubarb crumble, apple, citrus and herb character. There’s a fatter passionfruit edge to add richness, but maybe just a little tart to be really successful. B+

Villa Maria Wairau Valley Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2016, Marlborough, New Zealand (£15.40 Asda, Majestic, Wine Rack, Victor Hugo Wines, Ann et Vin, Bacchus Wine, Hailsham Cellars, Fenwicks, Luvians)
Richer but more backward in style, still with pithy citrus flavour, but there’s also a riper pear and passionfruit flavour, plus a crisp, stony finish. Good now, but still (in spring 2017) coming out of its shell. S(-)
