Wine Tasting Video: Assorted Whites – Picpoul, Godello, Weissburgunder, Marsanne

Tesco Finest* Picpoul de Pinet 2010, Languedoc, France (£7.29 Tesco)
Fresh clean style with a bracing marine tang, combines a fleshy peachiness with firmer, tauter apple and citrus flavours, and a leafy finish. B+

Crego e Monaguillo Godello 2011, Monterrei, Spain (£7.95 Saddleworth Wine Vault)
Vigorous youngster, initially the pear, peach and custard apple flesh seems too rich, but then a smoky, slatey gunflint edge pokes its way in, and there’s also a salty freshness. S-

Erste + Neue Weissburgunder 2010, Südtirol Alto Adige, Italy (£9.95 Saddleworth Wine Vault)
Beautifully balanced, high cheek-boned wine, with quite creamy rounded flesh with a sprinkling of white pepper set against a sterner backbone of tangy lemon and lime acidity and sleek minerality. S

Tahbilk Marsanne 2008, Nagambie Lakes, Victoria, Australia (£9.99 Tesco)
Just starting to show some honeyed toasty development, but there’s still plenty of zippy lime and guava flavour, and a rich but clean finish. Carries its 13.5% alcohol extremely well. S(-)
