Wine Tasting Video: Fortified wine – Port, Sherry & Madeira

Waitrose Solera Jerezana Palo Cortado (Lustau) NV, Jerez, Spain (£8.99 Waitrose)
Yum. Rich but dry style, think of the flavours in Christmas cake with a tangy, biting briny edge, very moreish, with lovely depth and freshness, could sip this all evening. S(+)

Taylor’s 10 Year Old Tawny Port, Portugal (£22.00 Booths, Majestic, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Selfridges, Tesco, Wholefoods Market, Waitrose)
Opulent and juicy, with festive flavours – sultanas, glace cherries, figs and walnuts – a warming kick of spirit, and a rich, juicy finish. S-

Taylor’s Late Bottled Vintage Port 2007, Portugal (£13.99 widely available)
Boisterous youngster brimming with fresh blackberry, plum, damson and orange peel flavours, still with some rawness to the spirit. Good but just a touch too brash. B

Blandy’s Harvest Malmsey Madeira 2004, Portugal (£18.16 Waitrose, Fenwicks, SH Jones, Adnams)
Pale and interesting style, sweet but never too sweet, with figgy raisin and tangy lime marmalade flavours pepped up by notes of walnuts, macadamia nuts and treacle toffee, rich but never too heavy. S(+)
