Wine Tasting Video: Rhone reds – Chateauneuf, Crozes, Cairanne and more

Domaine Laborie Pays d’Oc 2011, France (£5.50 The Wine Society)
Bit of a bargain, floral, juicy and rounded, with fleshy red berry fruit and a spicy lift, ever so slightly baked but tastes of a place rather than a process. B(+)

Jean Luc Colombo Crozes Hermitage Les Fées Brunes 2009, Rhône, France (£15.25 Matthew Clark, Wimbledon Wine Cellar, D.K Vintners, DJS Wines, T J Wines, Hailsham Cellars, Famous Wines Ltd, Corbridge Wines and Spirits, Wine to Dine, Polygon Wines, Tailor Made Wine Library, Fowey Fish & Fowey Wines, The Bottleneck, The Jolly Vintner, Fountainhall Wines, Shenfield Wine Company, Dickens House Wine Emporium, Wine World, Noble Wines)
Ruddy and rudely healthy young red, with spicy svelte berry, blackcurrant and plum fruit pepped up with notes of sage, orange peel and bacon fat. Tasty now, but five years plus ahead of it. S(+)

Harvey Nichols Plan de Dieu Côtes du Rhône Villages 2009 (Domaine de l’Espiguette), Rhône, France (£13.50 Harvey Nichols)
Initially shy, but opens up to show its dense dark-fruited heart and plummy warmth. Add in the notes of tar, black pepper and herbs and you have a very promising young wine. S

Vidal Fleury Cairanne 2010, Rhône, France (£10.99-£12.99 Majestic, Oddbins, Peckhams, Slurp)
A warm friendly sort of wine, amply proportioned with red fruit richness and notes of coal, spice and brown sugar, but always with enough freshness to stopit going wobbly. S(-)

Jean Luc Colombo Châteauneuf du Pape Les Bartavelles 2009, Rhône, France (£23.25 Matthew Clark, Wimbledon Wine Cellar, Luvians, Thomas Peatling, D.K Vintners, deFine, Cheers, Hailsham Cellars, The Strand Wine Company, The Jolly Vintner, Clifton Cellars, Peake Wine Associates, Rhythm and Booze, Famous Wines Ltd, Bacchus et Al, Refreshers, Eagle Wines, North and South Wines, The Wine Shop, The Bottleneck, Wine to Dine, Trina’s Wines, Bin 21, Corbridge Wines and Spirits, Oval Fine Wines & Beers Ltd, Polygon Wines, The Vineyard, Bluedrift Ltd, Tailor Made Wine Library, Noble Rot, Park Lane Wine & Deli, Fowey Fish & Fowey Wines, Portland Wine Company)
On the young side, but already very appealing, with a gentle floral edge to its blackcurrant and red fruit sweetness, notes of tar, citrus and ginger, and a long, confident finish. S+
