Chardonnays from California & Chile


Miguel Torres Santa Digna Unoaked Chardonnay 2016, Valle Central, Chile (£10.49 Grape to Glass Wine Co, Discover Wine, Portland Wine Company, Roberts and Speight, Polygon Wines, Hailsham Cellars)
Quite rich, almost oily-textured, with juicy peach and tinned fruit cocktail syrup flavours and a nutty edge to the finish. No shortage of flavour, but a bit simple. B-

La Crema Monterey Chardonnay 2015, California (£19.99 Just In Cases, Simply Wines Direct, Hailsham Cellars, Taurus Wines, SH Jones, winedirect.co.uk)
Now feels like a slightly old-fashioned style, with toasty oak very much in evidence and big, fleshy peach, pineapple, guava and passionfruit, flavours. Honest and intense but not subtle. B-
