Two Argentinean Cabernets


Fabre Montmayou Reservado Cabernet Franc 2015, Mendoza, Argentina (£15.99 Laithwaites)
I don’t mind the cocoa-dusted dark berry and blackcurrant flavours and light leafy character, but it’s a little too controlled for my liking, with not enough of the Cab Franc fragrance. I thought it might open up with time but it didn’t. B-

HJ Fabre Reservado Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, Mendoza, Argentina (£15.99 Laithwaites)
Richer, juicier, plumper and plummier than the Cab Franc, but also a touch of raisin and fig, hinting that some of the fruit was a little overripe. Again, a touch controlled, and hadn’t improved drastically after a couple of hours. B-
