South African Syrah – or is it Shiraz?

Delaire Graff Estate Shiraz 2013, Stellenbosch, South Africa (£9.99 31dover.com)
Juicy young style showing sweet spicy berry and plum fruit, a savoury/tomato-like character and a touch of chocolate on the finish. Rich but always fresh, good for a few years to come. S-

Mont Rochelle Syrah 2008, Franschhoek, South Africa (£14.49 SA Wines Online, Litmus Wines)
Relaxed mature style, showing a hint of brown, but still with generous dark plummy berry flesh alongside the figgy liquorice and light toffee flavours. Drink sooner rather than later. S-

I suspect the Delaire will be quite similar to the Mont Rochelle in 5 years’ time…
