Wine Tasting Video: Sparkling Wines – Prosecco, Sussex and Champagne

Cirotto Asolo Prosecco Superiore Extra Dry 2011, Veneto, Italy (£16.66 Fizz Italy)
Fresh, off-dry style, smells a bit like pumice stone, then when you taste it, the apple and pear flavours take centre stage, with a nutty note I the background. B(-)

Ca’ Salina Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Extra Dry NV (£15 Fizz Italy)
A rounded, rich style, again with pear and apple (fresh and stewed) flavours, but there’s also a briny mineral character and a clean citrussy finish. S-

Hoffman & Rathbone Rosé Reserve Brut 2010, Sussex, England (contact hoffmannandrathbone.co.uk)
Salmon pink in colour, I like the apple and red berry flavours, but then there’s both a smoky character that speaks of just-underripeness and a more robust plummy tinned fruit syrup character. Good but feels like work in progress. B(+)

Champagne Taittinger Prestige Rosé NV, France (£47 Waitrose, Majestic, Wine Rack, John Lewis, Fortnum & Mason)
Juicy yet elegant and confident, this combines friendly red apple, strawberry and raspberry fruit with a touch of toastiness and a clean citrus tang – rich in flavour, but fresh and precisely structured.
