Wine Tasting Video: Chilean Chardonnay

Duette Chardonnay 2011, Casablanca (£10.99 Highbury Vintners)
Quite heady wine with rich pineapple chunk flavour and a dollop oak in there too. Good but a tad simple, with just slightly too much of an old-fashioned oily feel. B

Lurton Hacienda Araucano Chardonnay Reserva 2011, Colchagua (£9.95 Tanners)
Not the most complex of wines, but satisfying stuff, combining depth of flavour -, just-ripe pineapple, citrus, nectarine – with fennel-like herbiness and a fresh finish. B (+)

Errázuriz Wild Ferment Chardonnay 2011, Casablanca (£13.49 Majestic, selected Co-op stores)
Really good zesty young style, with juicy peach and even strawberry fruit plus hints of nuts and butter reined in by citrus precision. S(-)

Arboleda Chardonnay 2011, Aconcagua Costa (£14.75 The Wine Library, The Cheddar Vine, Raffles, The Good Wine Shop)
Classy style – pineapple, citrus and green apple flavours given an extra sheen of toasty richness and oatmeal character from barrel maturation, plus a taut, tangy finish. S

Viña Leyda Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2011, Leyda (£10.99 Majestic)
Another lean, lithe beauty, lightly oaky but this only serves to highlight the crisp citrus and nectarine flavours. Very tasty, crisp, rounded and confident, a wine with high cheekbones. S

Santa Rita Medalla Real Chardonnay Gran Reserva 2011, Leyda (£10.99 Majestic)
Fresh and lively, with perky lime, peach and dried apricot flavours combining with lightly creamy cashew richness. S(-)
